Old Skool Classics (Nintendo 3DS): Seven-Game Cartridge Compilation

Playable today With conditions Listed as a physical 3DS cartridge; whether copies were sold, and whether any can be found now, is not confirmed.

Old Skool Classics is a compilation cartridge for the Nintendo 3DS, listed under the Storm City name with seven classic-style games on it. It is one of the least documented titles in the catalogue: sources agree on the platform and the publisher family, and disagree on when or whether it reached stores.

What the listings say

The Amazon India product page describes a Nintendo 3DS cartridge and gives a release date of 25 October 2011, Storm City Entertainment as manufacturer and item model number 01042. Its marketing copy promises seven of the most playable games of all time, puzzles, action and shooters on one cartridge, endless replayability and a full 3D presentation. No titles are named in that copy, so no game list is repeated here.

Giant Bomb lists the compilation for the 3DS with Storm City Games credited as both developer and publisher and a release in September 2012. Its page names seven titles, but the notes beside them are written as jokes, so they are not used as a statement of what the cartridge contains. The Nintendo Wiki on Fandom dates a North American release to 6 December 2011.

GameFAQs carries the title with Storm City Games as the US publisher and an ESRB rating of E with no descriptors, and shows the US release as canceled. Put beside the Amazon India listing, that record leaves the status open. A retailer carried a product page with a date, yet one database treats the North American launch as never having happened. Which of those is right is not settled by any source found.

Credits and the wider label

Storm City Games is described in public listings as a casual-game division of Storm City Entertainment, based in Sicklerville, New Jersey, whose Wii and DS output includes Gummy Bears Minigolf and Beastly: Frantic Foto. That fits the manufacturer name on the Amazon India page, which reads Storm City Entertainment.

A separate set of Nintendo 3DS compilations carries the Enjoy Gaming name. Wikipedia’s list of 3DS games carries one called Arcade Classics 3D under Enjoy Gaming, and Nintendo World Report lists the same company’s titles. Whether that is the same product as Old Skool Classics under another name is not confirmed by any authoritative source found, so no link between them is drawn here.

Reception

No review, score or user rating was found for Old Skool Classics, and no outlet is known to have covered it.

Can you still play it?

That depends on finding a copy. If the cartridge was sold, it is a physical 3DS card, and a Nintendo 3DS family console will read it. A Wii U, a Switch and the older Nintendo DS family consoles will not. All 3DS consoles are region locked, so a copy bought in one region plays only on a console from that region.

No download edition is documented. If one existed, it could no longer be bought, because the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShop closed worldwide on 27 March 2023. Nintendo stopped making the 3DS family on 16 September 2020.
